Religious Authorities in Social Action Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic for Global Muslims

(Case Studies in Indonesia, Japan and Iran)

This book was born from a collaborative
research between Dr. Ahmad Suaedy as
Dean of the Faculty of Islamic ArchipelagoNadhlatul Ulama University Indonesia

(FIN UNUSIA) who also to be a Visiting
Researcher for BRIN Indonesia with
Professor Okamoto Masaaki, Vice Director
for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) who
is also a senior lecturer at ASAFAS Kyoto
University, Kyoto, Japan and Professor
Mahmoodreza Isfandiar, professor in
Southeast Asian Studies Azad University
Tehran Iran and Hamdani Ph.D an
anthropologist at Graduate School of Syarif
Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN)
Jakarta.
This research collaboration was initially born
from Ahmad Suaedy’s previous research
on a similar topic but only specifically for
Indonesia, which was on the topic of clerical
leadership in dealing with the Covid-19
pandemic in Indonesia. This research has been
published in the journal Episteme with the
title “Mobilization of Islamic Organizations
Amid the Pandemic in Indonesia: Case Studies
of NU, Muhammadiyah, and GUSDURian
Network,” Many experts and parties predict

that the experience of this Covid-19 pandemic
or what some call this global disaster will be
remembered by the world community for
centuries to come like other pandemics and
global disasters. It is therefore important to
develop and document a broader view of
this catastrophe. As a scientific research, it
certainly should take a certain focus. Hundreds
or even thousands of works on covid-19 both
nationally in various countries and globally
which have been documented and published,
including the topic on the role of the Islamic
scholars in the Islamic world.
